The Caffè Pedrocchi is one of the most famous historical coffee-houses in Italy and one of the symbols of Padua. This complex building in neoclassical style was commissioned by a famous 19th c. coffee-maker, Antonio Pedrocchi, and designed by the venetian architect Giuseppe Jappelli in 1831. The ground floor has several rooms each named after the colour of the tapestry or the shape of the room. The upper floor, the Piano Nobile, has rooms decorated in various styles (Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Etruscan, etc) and a wide ball room dedicated to the famous musician Rossini.
The Museum of Risorgimento is hosted on the first floor, Piano Nobile, of the Caffè Pedrocchi. It displays a series of important items related to the past history of Padua, from the downfall of the Republic of Venice (1797) to the Constitution of the Italian Republic (1848).
