The cycle inside the Scrovegni Chapel is considered the greatest masterpiece of fourteenth century Italian and European painting. Under a blue, starry heaven Giotto illustrated the lives of Mary and Jesus to end with the imposing Last Judgement. On the altar are statues by famous Tuscan sculptor Giovanni Pisano (14th c). The apse is decorated by frescoes attributed to Giotto’s followers and to Giusto de’ Menabuoi.
